IB Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a stimulating and demanding two-year pre-university course of study.

Originally developed in 1968 to provide a common curriculum and a university entry credential for geographically mobile students, the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD) Programme is now taught in 2094 IB World Schools in 125 countries. Widely recognized as the finest education a student can receive in the final two years of schooling, its enviable reputation for rigorous assessment gives IB students access to the world's leading universities.

The International Baccalaureate's mission:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme:

  • Develops the whole student, helping students to grow intellectually, socially, aesthetically and culturally;
  • Combines breadth with the opportunity to specialize, by providing a broad and balanced education that includes sciences and the humanities, languages and mathematics, technology and the arts;
  • Gives students an awareness and understanding of their own culture and of other cultures, values and ways of life through the study of languages and histories;
  • Teaches students to think critically, and encourages them to draw connections between areas of knowledge and to use problem-solving techniques and concepts from many disciplines;
  • Equips students with extensive writing capabilities and research skills as well as the intellectual attributes necessary for success in higher education and employment;
  • Stresses those values and opportunities that enable students to develop sound judgment, make wise choices and respect others and the environment.

The curriculum for the IB Diploma Program:

IBDP students study three subjects at a 'Higher Level' (HL) and three at a 'Standard Level' (SL). They study HL subjects for a greater number of hours and in greater depth than SL subjects; thus, the IBDP student combines a broad education with detailed study.

Applying for admission to Johnson IB World School for the IBD Program:

The application forms are available for registration at the school premises on payment of the application and prospectus fee of INR.1000/

The registrations start in the month of April. It is a four stage process before which the student is granted admission into the course.

After the registration, the student is required to go through the entrance examination, which starts with a written test in Math, English, Sciences and Humanities, if they opt for it as one of their subjects. The standard of this exam is such that any average 10th standard student from any stream, be it SSC, ICSE or CBSE would be able to tackle it. After the test, the student is given a topic and is expected to speak on it for a minute. This is to see the communication skills of the student. Once this round is cleared, there will be a personal interview for the student with the Principal or the Vice-Principal. A student is granted admission into the Diploma Program based on his/her performance in the written and oral examinations and the personal interview. The extra curricular activities of the student are also reviewed.
